WHG Guardianship Service - Student Safety

The Safety of every child is paramount.

We take the safety of every child very seriously and endeavour to exceed any regulatory requirements where ever possible. All of our head office staff, Local Co-ordinators and host families have an up to date certificate from the UK government Disclosure and Barring Service which we maintain on a regular basis.

Most schools will insist on an AEGIS accredited guardian for any foreign students attending their institute. Our promises are backed by our membership and accreditation to AEGIS, which subjects us to a demanding appraisal process and constantly monitors our services to be sure our standards continue to satisfy its exacting requirements. As well as meeting the professional standards of The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students (AEGIS), WHG also conforms to the guidelines of the Children's Act 1989, are members of the International Education Forum, certified partners of Quality English (QE) and corporate members of English UK.

It may surprise you to learn that in the UK there is no legal control over guardianship companies which means that anyone can operate a guardianship service, with no guarantees. Your safeguard is to only deal with accredited organisations.

Questions to ask a prospective guardian:

  • Do you live close to the school?
  • Is there local cover if you are not available?
  • Are all of your staff DBS checked?
  • Are your host families inspected and regularly visited?
  • Have you a 24 Hour emergency contact?
  • Are you accredited by AEGIS?
  • Do you have multilingual staff?
WHG answers YES to all of these questions
